FIRST LEGO League Challenge

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge introduces young people, ages 9 to 14 (grades 4-8), to the fun and excitement of science and technology.

Teams are composed of up to ten (10) children with at least two (2) screened Coaches and are formed in public schools, private schools, home school groups, scouts, 4-H groups, churches, or other community based organizations.  In FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge the coaches select the team members and there is no formal placement program in place.  To help coaches find kids and kids find coaches we established the Oklahoma Team-up Facebook Group which is open to the public.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge coaches do not need any technical experience, the children do the work.  The primary job of the coach is to provide an environment where the kids can create and explore through the challenge.  Coaches help the team establish their goals and remind the students to stay on task while the kids program an autonomous robot to score points on a thematic playing surface, create innovative solutions to a problem they identify, all while being guided by the Core Values. These three elements – the Robot Game, Project, and FIRST Core Values – make up what we call our yearly Challenge. Teams also fundraise, create a team identity, and talk to experts in the field.
